Heart disease is common in the United States and is the leading cause of death for men and women. It has been found that it affects most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. In America, an individual dies every thirty-six seconds from heart disease making it 1 out of every 4 deaths is cardiovascular-related. There are different types of the disease that can range from coronary artery disease to heart attacks.  Today's western culture has catered towards the increase in heart disease. Lifestyle choices and diet have increased heart disease immensely. There have been changes in the environment that promote unhealthy living. A sedentary lifestyle paired with a fatty sodium-rich diet is a recipe for disaster. Different contributing factors like exercise, diet, smoking, stress levels, and lack of medical care sought have led to problems. Speciation and evolution work together to create patterns that one can observe and understand. The speed of speciation is also a concept that can be studied because of its various components that play into the idea. Speciation in simple terms is the formation of new species in the course of evolution that are unique and distinct. Organisms can adapt and become new species in certain cases and time is a variable we can study here. Organisms can evolve new traits that allow them to thrive better in a specific environment. When looking at how long it takes for new species to form, the answer is not simple. There are contributing factors just like anything with evolution. An intense environmental pressure may increase the rate at which new species evolve because they must adapt quickly.
